My name is Craig Colboth. I grew up experimenting with electronics, specially electron tubes. It always interested me that a glass bottle that glowed like a dim light bulb, could make so many things possible. Every electronic device we have today owes thanks to the electron tube.
While modern applications for tubes are very limited, they still survive today because of their ability to produce and reproduce audio with great detail that solid state devices can not do. This is why I only build tubed amplifiers. Only tubes can produce the cherished tone that guitarists crave.
I have been working with tubes since high school. This included amplifiers, radios and transmitters. I've read many books on tubes, but only real hands-on experience can make you understand not just how they work, but how you must be careful the circuitry design. Tubes can be very picky with their placement and the other circuit components. Only a good working knowledge of tubes can make a good amplifer sound great.
More to come..............
